IDOE Dashboard Work Garners Ed-Fi Award for Resultant

The Ed-Fi Alliance has announced the Community Award recipients for the seventh consecutive year, honoring those who made exceptional contributions to education. Resultant’s education team is delighted to receive the Ed-Fi Alliance’s 2023 Innovation of the Year Award for their effort with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) on the Graduates Prepared to Succeed (GPS) dashboard.

What is Indiana’s Graduates Prepared to Succeed dashboard?

Recent legislation required the State of Indiana to build a public-facing dashboard communicating school performance. Resultant partnered with IDOE to re-envision how to strategically measure school performance and student learning and build a solution that provides a detailed understanding of the performance of schools, districts, and the state education system to parents, educators, policymakers, and the public—with room to grow.

The GPS dashboard uses longitudinal data from multiple Indiana agencies while also providing perspectives that show what the data really means. Our work included developing both the public-facing website and back-end access for school districts to review preliminary and student-level data to better inform their decision-making.

Collaborating with IDOE to support students, educators, and parents

Resultant’s work began with a thorough discovery phase in which we looked at national performance metrics with IDOE and defined a set of characteristics that best indicate a student’s preparation for success after high school. We defined and established data governance from the outset, developed and built data architecture and wireframes, and performed iterative development and testing.

We worked with IDOE to support the technical implementation while facilitating communication and change management and bolstering external engagement. Resultant will continue to assist with dashboard maintenance and enhancements as IDOE continues to refine the indicators of student success and respond to changing state data needs.

The dashboard includes statewide data on topics such as third-grade literacy, sixth-grade math growth, graduation pathways completion, and college and career credentials. It also contains school-level data points like student attendance, ILEARN testing performance, and statistics on higher level coursework, all filterable by student demographics. Future plans include data from kindergarten readiness assessments and pre-K through second grade literacy benchmarks, among others.

About the Ed-Fi Alliance Innovation of the Year Award

The Ed-Fi Alliance is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping every school district and state achieve data interoperability through implementation of the Ed-Fi data standard and other technologies. By connecting educational data systems, they empower educators with comprehensive, real-time insights into their students’ performance and needs.

This year’s Ed-Fi Alliance Innovation of the Year Award to Resultant includes a $5,000 donation to Girls Who Code, an organization committed to reaching girls around the world to close the gender gap in tech by the year 2030. Resultant is pleased to match this donation and further our mission of helping our communities thrive.
