Fiona Helsel, Ph. D.

Sr. Consultant, Education Services

Dr. Fiona Helsel has a Ph.D. in developmental studies with a concentration in early childhood education and child development from Purdue University. She was drawn to a consulting career in education research and evaluation to help transform data into positive action for children and their families. She loves working with clients to understand and address their needs.

As a senior consultant on the early learning team, she is currently working with clients in Kansas to develop the infrastructure and stakeholder buy-in necessary for the development of an early childhood integrated system and in Iowa to support the design, development, and implementation of an operational data store for real-time childcare supply, demand, and vacancy data.

She previously held positions at Education Northwest and the American Institutes for Research where she led federally-funded projects, serving as director of the Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest for the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences and project coordinator for the What Works Clearinghouse early childhood education topic.

When not at work, Fiona enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and three dogs (Scotty, Grover, and Keenai); working out; reading; volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society; playing keys in School of Rock; and throttle therapy on her motorcycle.
