I was just a few years out of college when I joined Resultant. At that time, we were solely an Indiana-centered company. All 55 or so employees were in Indianapolis, and we served only Indiana-based clients. And when I first received my offer of employment, I was intimidated because the company (called KSM Consulting at the time) had such a strong reputation for highly intelligent consultants. I wasn’t sure how I would be able to add value in such an environment.
That first week, everyone I encountered was so welcoming that my sense of intimidation immediately dissipated—even when I was thrown into the deep end of a large state project already in progress, working in the field on my second day.
It was so impactful to realize that yes, we had incredibly smart people working here, but these brilliant thinkers were also incredibly kind people. And I realized that while I don’t have all the answers, because the people at Resultant were deeply invested in building relationships, they were going to show me how to add value.
Our mission is to help our clients, co-workers, and our communities thrive.
On building a company culture
The Resultant culture evolved organically. The original founding members were mission-driven, hard-working, empathetic, fearless problem solvers. And as we added employees, we stuck to that. Culture happened because of these relationships we built just by being close to each other in the office and in the field, learning what was going on in people’s lives, with their spouses, and with their kids.
Relationships happened that way with our clients, too. We prioritized understanding their companies, the problems they needed help solving, and the ways their teams operated to be able to build solutions that would actually work for them. That all starts with listening. And we grew.
Enter 2020 and the pandemic. Not only did we all start working remotely during that time, we also expanded significantly and had many more employees, spread out across the country. Suddenly, even if we did return to the office, our office wouldn’t hold everyone. We grappled with embracing growth while remaining true to who we are at the core: our mission, vision, and values. The answer was to keep those as our guide in everything we did.
Resultant Core Values
On being named a USA Today Top Places to Work award winner
Over the decade that’s passed since my first week, the company has grown and evolved, and my role here has, too. I’ve moved from consulting to now serving as the vice president of talent. Resultant now has more than 450 team members. We’ve won several regional and local awards for our work, and many of our employees have been recognized as well.
This USA Today Top Places to Work is a national award, and what makes me so proud of it is that it’s all based on employee feedback. It’s proof that we’ve stayed true to the things that are important to us while welcoming people who bring new energy and ideas to help our culture grow in meaningful ways.
2024 Energage Survey Results
- 78% overall Workplace Experience score (+3% from 2023)
- 91% Resultant operates by strong values 86% My job makes me feel like I am part of something meaningful
- 84% I would highly recommend working at Resultant to others
I think this is a very important point: From the talent perspective, we’re not seeking people who are a “cultural fit.” We’re seeking people who are culturally additive. People who are mission-driven and values-oriented, and also bring their own unique perspectives and backgrounds to our company culture.
Back in the early days, so many people would stay late after our company all-staff meetings, just to eat and drink and socialize with each other. Work would creep in there, too, but just out of the natural curiosity of all of these mission-driven people. And that still happens today. We’re a lot bigger, and the onsite occurs simultaneously in Indianapolis and Dallas, but people still hang out with each other afterwards for hours. That’s not forced. People like each other; the relationships they’ve built happened organically.
Early career development
Something that’s always stood out at Resultant is that leadership has a knack for identifying potential in employees often before the employee can even see it themselves. Leadership meets people where they are to help develop that potential.
We now have a program centered around early career hires that formalizes and structures those things that were so valuable to me when I began my career here. We bring the cohort together to help them learn the ropes in a structured way, explore different client projects, learn about multiple career paths, and access mentorship. All of this helps build well-rounded leaders, which is important because someone can be a leader no matter where they are in the organization.
Still mission-driven
In a recent roundtable meeting, one employee said, “I’m going to be mission-driven no matter where I am, that’s just who I am. One of the things I love about Resultant is that I get to bring that mission-driven part of myself to work and see the results of it in what it means to our clients.”
That’s what makes us different. Our mission, vision, and values aren’t just words on the wall. We actually live and work by them. As VP of Client Experience and Delivery Operations Jess Carter said, “We reject easy in favor of best.”
The mission-driven work we do is very additive to the employee experience because we’re attracting people who resonate with our mission, vision, and values. Universally, new employees say that after they start working here, they see the proof of our mission, vision, and values in the work we do and in how we interact with each other. People can grow very meaningful careers here.
In a way, we’re building ambassadors. We don’t expect every employee we hire to stay at Resultant for their entire career. But we want it to be the best possible experience, and we want them to move on to their next phase with skills and leadership qualities they wouldn’t have otherwise had. We’re striving to be an employer of choice, the kind of place everyone is vying to get into.
