While technology has become an integral part of education, people in correctional facilities have limited access to modern learning resources. Recognizing the power of education in breaking the cycle of recidivism, the Colorado Department of Corrections (DOC) embarked on a path to modernize their learning management system.
Enhancing Education with Learning Management Modernization
Colorado DOC partnered with Resultant to implement Google Learning Management Systems throughout the state prison system. They had a vision of equipping prison learners with skills needed for successful release while maintaining security and promoting self-sufficiency in the correctional environment.
Incarcerated individuals wanting to further their education had access to a limited number of Chromebooks, but those lacked crucial features such as email capabilities and word processing applications. Resultant collaborated with Colorado DOC on a year-long project to deploy Google Workspace, enabling people in prison to apply for higher learning and training certifications, access online educational resources, and leverage word processing tools to improve their academic work.

Research shows the more education a person receives while incarcerated, the less likely they are to return to prison.
By implementing Google Learning Management Systems, Colorado DOC not only provides people in prison with access to essential educational tools but also helps them develop crucial skills for employment upon release. Through embracing and modernizing their technology, they have taken a proactive step towards empowering incarcerated individuals with the skills and resources necessary for a brighter future.
