Resultant Data Scientist Named to TechPoint’s 2020 Tech 25 Class

Indianapolis: TechPoint, a nonprofit, industry-led growth accelerator for Indiana’s technology ecosystem, announced today that it has named Resultant senior data scientist Dan LaBar to the Tech 25 class of 2020.

LaBar was honored during the 2020 IBJ CTO of the Year and Tech 25 breakfast alongside individuals from companies like Lessonly, High Alpha, and Roche for exceptional work contributions, positive energy and attitude, and remarkable impact on the Indianapolis community.

Notable Impact on the Lives of Hoosiers

In his five years at Resultant, LaBar has led data science on projects that have improved the lives of countless Indiana residents, including:

Working with the Indiana Management Performance Hub to determine the underlying drivers of issues facing the state and unlock insights, from drug arrests and traffic accidents to infant mortality

Indiana State Police’s Daily Crash Prediction Map, for which Dan developed a predictive algorithm based on traffic data from INDOT over certain days, weeks, and major holidays, as well as historical weather trends and census data that received a flood of press coverage

The State of Indiana’s response to COVID-19 including a disease propagation and hospitalization resource consumption projection that provided key information to Governor Holcomb to closely monitor the state’s “Back on Track” reopening plan

LaBar’s Career

“Dan is a technically experienced, resourceful, and empathetic data scientist,” said Sandip Biswas, data science lead at Resultant. “When it comes to working with clients, he seeks to holistically understand their problems—not just on a technical level, but process-oriented level as well. He internalizes the impact of his work and is seen as a mentor to several junior data scientists just getting started in their careers. Dan is an invaluable asset to the Indianapolis data science community.”

LaBar started at Resultant in 2015 after spending 14 years at Lexmark, a Kentucky-based printer manufacturer, first as a hardware engineer and then as a data scientist. Dan’s role at Resultant involves analyzing complex data to uncover patterns and predict outcomes for state and municipal government clients. When he’s not working on a data science solution, LaBar enjoys practicing photography and spending time with his wife and two children. LaBar is a graduate of Rose-Hulman Technical Institute and lives in Zionsville.
