El Paso Independent School District Furthers Impact with Visual Analytics

El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) is one of the largest school districts in the state of Texas with 85 schools that serve over 55,000 students and employ more than 8,000 people. Established in 1883, their student body is ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse with 65% of students registered as economically disadvantaged.

The Problem

EPISD wanted to demonstrate the excellence of their diverse student body with key school performance indicators but knew Excel and PowerPoint would fall short of their requirements. They chose Tableau and some expert guidance from Resultant to develop dashboards that would tell their story with impact.

Showing how their programs and focus on student improvement were delivering results would lead to EPISD board approval for funding, maintaining state certifications, and communicating to the community the far-reaching benefits that come from improving student lives.

The EPISD team now can clearly share outcomes and advancements in key areas with their board and other stakeholders, demonstrating the full impact of their programs and focus on student improvement.

Impact

EPISD regularly accesses the original 2017 dashboards every week and uses them as templates for new dashboards for greater communication. The EPISD analytics team has grown since our original engagement and maintains their own Tableau environment, only leveraging Resultant for occasional mentoring and advisement.

  • Built dashboards to highlight EPISD performance in college admissions, SAT scores, STAAR Test (the state’s proficiency assessment) results
  • Documented all data prep and dashboard refresh processes
  • Provided in-depth training to EPISD data and analytics team

As soon as we shared this work with our stakeholders, we immediately started getting requests for dashboards from multiple departments. Without a great partnership from Resultant and lead consultant Preston Howell, we would never be where we are today with our data visualization.
