Rapid Response Mobile Application Assists Ohio Citizens with Re-Employment

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ (ODJFS) Office of Workforce Development facilitates Rapid Response events for individuals who have been or soon will be affected by an employer layoff. After manually collecting details about the dislocated workers at a Rapid Response event, ODJFS staff work with the employer and the affected workers to assist them in their search for new jobs, to acquire training and new skills, or to avert the layoff altogether.

The Solution

The Resultant team worked with multiple groups within ODJFS to design, develop, and implement a multi-channel mobile application to enable the Rapid Response Workforce Specialists to automate and efficiently collect the required information from affected workers and assist them more effectively.

The Ohio Means Jobs Rapid Response Mobile Application includes the following high level features and functions:

  • Support for Apple iOS and Android smartphones and tablets
  • Collection of seeker registration details via Driver’s License barcode scanning
  • Rapid Response survey collection
  • Searching for rapid response (layoff) events by name, date, location, or ID
  • Document scanning including automatic cropping and image enhancements
  • Automated report generation and export
  • Ability to function while offline (without an active Internet connection)

The Outcome

Ohio’s Rapid Response Workforce Specialists can now handle mass layoff events in a much more efficient and thorough manner, meaning Ohio citizens who have recently or soon will lose employment receive the services they need through the re-employment process.

ODJFS gained reporting and tracking capabilities from automated data capture via the mobile application. The mobile application handles various employment and training event types, and it can easily accommodate additional employment services in the future.
